The Importance Of Establishing A Good Relationship With Your Local Radio Station

As we are fast approaching the release of Adams single & album

I think it's very important to touch on this subject

My local radio station was not giving Adam's music airplay in the beginning

I would email or call my song request in once per day

At first it was for Whataya Want From Me

The DJ'S would always say we'll see what we can do

I knew that was their way of saying it's not going to happen

My communication with them was always on a friendly note

In fact they encouraged my requests

Then one day I received an email back from the program director

His exact words were this "Make sure to listen between 12:00 - 1:00

What happened that day was music to my ears

Whataya Want From Me finally got it's long overdue airplay

Fast forward to If I Had You

I went through the same vigorous routine

Only this time the DJ'S answer went like this

"Our program director thinks the song has too much of a club sound to it"

Needless to say my blood pressure went through the roof

I felt like reaching through the phone & strangling the DJ

Of course I held myself together & politely thanked him for his time

Once again he encouraged me to keep requesting which I did of course

I had gone on my 8 day holiday right after this

When I returned home I could not believe my eyes when I went to their website

Not only were they playing If I Had You

It was #1 on their top 40...Miracles do happen

Through this whole process I've established great communication with the DJ'S

I do like calling in my requests to establish phone communication also

Usually I do this once per week

Now when I call as soon as I say Adam Lambert they know who I am

The DJ always says "Hi Debbie From Canada"

Suppose the moral of my very long story here is this

When we get discouraged or upset about Adam's music airplay

Make sure to remain polite, friendly & we shall persevere

@debbielyn, what a great informative thread. I am not a big radio person, but for Adam I have learned to become one. Your approach is the way we need to go. We need to get to know our local station's DJs and get them to know us and like us! I hope everyone reads this!!

Love that story @debbielynn, it proves a very important point..... requesting politely does work.

As the time gets closer maybe you could place this so more fans will see it and be able to read it.

I shared this to Twitter and FB and will continue to do it to get it out there. We all have to become Public Realtions people and get these DJs to like us and that we really have an interest in their show!!

I know someone who sometimes works in a local radio station on a volunteer basis...when she does shows she always plays me an Adam song :)

Wanted to share this story too

The conversation went exactly like this

I said hey Jake how's it going...Can I get a song request in

He said I'm doing great what song do you want to hear

I said If I Had You

He then said Debbie I haven't spoken to you is so long...How's it going

I told him things are great

Then he said to me I saw you on twitter though I forget what your twitter name is

I told him it's canadaluvsadam

He said yeah that's right I see you still love Adam

I said well of course I do

He then said you go girl...Now I forget what your song request is

Wow @debbielynn ...I think those DJ's have or are going to have a crush on you girl!! You got him all nervous....didn't even remember the song you asked for!!! Keep it up...going to see if I can get some DJ's to get a crush on me!! You're doing it perfectly!!!
